Prophetic Endurance

Embracing the Miraculous

It has been said of the followers of Christ that supernatural signs would accompany them. It was shown in the ministry of Christ, whose words and teachings were accompanied by miracles and healings. But in this time, perhaps we respond as if to say, supernatural signs and miracles, though possible are not the main sign of the prophetic. If people were to ask someone with a prophetic ministry to show their authenticity with signs and wonders, they might respond with a display of power. They might claim to know something about you that God revealed to them, but we have established that this is invasive, and may also occur through divination. It seems that rather, the sign of the prophetic in the last days is the songs of worship that have been given to the songwriters, for us to sing. Something we can all participate in.

My poetry is what I use as a sign that God has poured out his anointing. The prolific limitlessness of its scope is a sign of the oil of his anointing, not supernatural works. But we have not been without miracles. A miracle is considered a spiritual gift, to have that gift coupled with healing, could be of great use for people who are sick or need a physician. That gift gone awry, or misused, or ignored, could also make people sick, or hurt people. It must be honed to be used for prayer and obedience to God's will.

I have been given the gift of miracles, and have experienced many miracles in my life ( I am now almost 45) that can't be explained by logic or reasoning, or by any sort of science. Miracles that have been described by those who witnessed them as impossible.

At one point, I took a roll of black and white film, and had it developed in sepia. About a year or two later, I wanted to get reprints and took the photo negatives into London Drugs to get more prints. When I picked up the photos, I looked at them at the counter, and noticed they were now in colour. When I realized something was wrong, and the reprints were not in sepia, I asked the clerk, were it possible for black and white pictures to turn into colour. She shook her head. It is virtually impossible for that to happen unless someone water-coloured each one, she said.

There have been many others, even money and other things multiplying, things disappearing and then reappearing later in the same location, and substances turning into other substances (cinnamon turned into curry powder at midnight, for example). These smaller miracles have happened so often, I am getting a good sense of humour, learning to roll with it, and saying,

"OK Jesus, I can tell you have the ability to multiply things. Did you do this?" It is kind of like he is a mischievous little boy at this point.

At some point his mother knows he has grown into an adult, who also has the gift of miracles. She is at a wedding feast with him, and the wine runs out. She comes to him, and says:

"They have no more wine."

"Woman, why do you involve me?" Jesus replied. "My hour has not yet come."

His mother said to the servants, "Do whatever he tells you."

Nearby stood six stone water jars. . . each holding from twenty to thirty gallons.

Jesus said to the servants, "Fill the jars with water"; so they filled them to the brim.

Then he told them, "Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet."

They did so, and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine. He did not realize where it had come from . . . then he called the bridegroom aside and said, " Everyone brings out the choice wine first and then the cheaper wine after the guests have had too much to drink; but you have saved the best till now."

(John 2:3-10 NIV)

The best for last . . . and now also in human history he has saved the best for last. What is yet to be poured out on the earth may be the beginning of a world-wide revival, but only if it changes your heart from water to wine. Only if you see it as an opportunity to reap the harvest of what you have planted in your lifetime. What you have built upon the foundation of Christ will serve you well now.

When we drink the wine of the wedding banquet today, let us rejoice in the miracle of the time we are in, and that his prophets are able to do miracles too. He has saved these for the end.
