Prophetic Endurance

The Glass Decanter

Oil: the substance of anointing has many uses in the prophetic. It was the anointing oil spoken about in Exodus 30:22-33.

There are many prophetic things we can do each day, besides just to long to give prophetic words of encouragement to the body of Christ. Becoming a prophet may require both rituals and symbolic acts in obedience to Christ. I used to put a glass decanter of water of the counter, and forbade myself to move it; it was a symbol to me of giving water to the thirsty, all nations and people groups. The impulse every day to move that decanter or even touch it was a real temptation, but one I had to learn to resist in obedience to the direction I was given.

Oil poured out symbolizes anointing, and often I am called to pour olive oil out into a glass, and mix it with fragrant essential oils, such as basil, lavender, eucalyptus and rosemary to imbue it with medicinal fragrance and sanctity. This can be used for a myriad of purposes. The interesting thing about rosemary is it represents faithfulness. Did you know the rosemary plant grows at maturity to 33 inches, and as such, is said to represent the years that Jesus dwelt on earth before he died. Peppermint and Eucalyptus are analgesic oils, containing menthol and camphor, respectively and numb pain. Essential oils are usually always diluted with a carrier oil when used topically, but you don't have to pick olive if it is too heavy, you can use a lighter oil such as almond, grapeseed, jojoba, or avocado.

Oil is calming, it relieves anxiety; oil infused with essential oils is a powerful alternative to psychiatric drugs (or complement, if you are already on them). I am starting to feel that we as the prophetic community need to do symbolic and powerful things in response to Jesus' direction to induce calm and reduce anxiety in the church. You can have an impact even from home. People are anxious and fearful about finances and food supply, jobs and resources. Self-care in some ways is taking a hit: we can't get our hair cut at the salon or buy shoes. Yet we know from the story of the Old Testament prophet Moses, that when the children of Israel wandered in the desert for 40 years their needs were taken care of in dramatic ways. Eating quail and manna. Having sandals and clothing that did not wear out, along with Biblical hair. I was wondering this week if everyone was going to say, this is my new COVID hairdo. They could not look cooler.

We are getting more laid back, more patient, more penitent, out of necessity. I trust the Lord will use these hardships in our lives to teach us to follow him through the wilderness into the promised land. That eventually we will reach the land flowing with milk and honey. It seems like a long and dusty journey, though, as it seems Moses it still striking the Nile water and turning it to blood, and striking the Egyptians with plagues (exodus 7:14-11:10). When he says we're on the move, then let's move out. We have the red sea in front of us.

Sing to the Lord, for He is highly exalted

Sing to the Lord, for He is worthy of praise

The horse and rider He has thrown into the sea

The horse and rider He has thrown into the sea

Chorus:

Yahweh has risen in the darkness

Yahweh has triumphed in the night

We cry, unto you Most Holy

Our deliverance draweth nigh

Sing to the Lord, let all the nations praise Him

Sing to the Lord; let the nations bow

The horse and rider He has thrown into the sea

The horse and rider He has thrown into the sea

(repeat chorus)
